Wooden spoons...

I got a few new wooden spoons to add to my collection for Christmas this year. So last week I got them all clean and rubbed them down with some spoon oil (great instructions for spoon oil here).

This one isn't new... but it's my favorite. It's a deep wooden ladle for soups. I love it!

This is one that my husband got me for Christmas. It's hand carved and the wood has the prettiest grain running through it! Almost to pretty to cook with... almost.

Sometimes I feel silly that I get so excited over wooden spoons, but I really do love them. I love cooking with them. I actually have enough now that I got rid of all of my plastic cooking spoons. Slowly but surely I'm trying to get rid of most of the plastic in my kitchen, I'd like to just use wood, metal, and glass for most things.
I highly recommend the spoon oil though. It keeps my wood looking great and not cracking when they get wet.

  1. That is a pretty neat looking spoon the grain really is beautiful! Does wood really work as well as plastic? I'm always afraid it's going to scratch something.

  3. Christina - I don't feel like my wooden spoons scratch my pans at all!! The metal ones do though, and the plastic ones tend to melt a little sometimes and that sort of creeps me out, so wood it is! I haven't noticed any scratches from the wood.

  4. I did it! And all my wood looks fabulous again. I already had the beeswax, mineral oil and sandpaper. What a difference. Some of them were even starting to split and I glued them back together, sanded and they are beautiful and smooth again. And my cutting boards look great too. Now I want more spoons! Thanks Meg
