New Feet...

January has been a slow month for crafts... instead life has happened. It's been a wild roller coaster ride, but I think it's starting to slow down a bit. Refreshing, depressing...time spent with family... both happy and sad times. I've found that instead of wanting to dive into a new project I would rather spend my time cuddling on the couch with my two favorite boys... so I have.

But as the end of January is here I find that something is missing... so it's time to jump back on the saddle. I pulled something out of the "craft dresser" that I am soooo excited to start using!!!

Meet my two new feet...

Some girls ask for shoes for Christmas... I ask for feet! (Yes, I'm aware of how corny that sounds but it's true!) Here are my two new quilting feet that I got for Christmas! One is a walking foot for machine quilting, and the other is a darning foot for free style quilting (thanks Mom!) I've never tried either of these out before so it's going to be good times! Probably more ruined projects before a real keeper, but that's okay.
The first project... I'm going to attempt to machine quilt a jean quilt that I've been working on. Is it possible to do this? I really don't know... I hope so. I'm sick of tying quilts. Messing with the boards and the clamps... so we will see how this turns out!

  1. Awesome!! You are going to absolutely love machine quilting. Finishing the quilt by hand quilting or tieing was always my least favorite part . . .until I learned how to machine quilt! :) I actually don't have a walking foot and have been trying to get by with just my presser foot. It works okay, but not the best. I've been meaning to see if I can find a walking foot that will fit on my old 1950s Singer machine. Do you know if all Singer's are standardized so any foot will fit any machine? I'll have to look into it.

    Have fun!

  2. I'm not sure if they are standard or not. You might just want to take your machine into a Singer store and try it on to see if it will fit. I'm still trying to figure out how to attach my free motion foot... I'm not sure if it's going to work, I might need a different one...

  4. Keep us posted on how that is working for you. I am still working on my daughter's quilt that I started when she was 2. She turns 8 this year. I had decided to hand quilt it out of nastalgia. I'm thinking machine quilting might be the way to go for me too.

  5. I personally have never machine quilted a blanket as big as you have. It might be more taxing than you think but I am sure you will find a way in the end. PS I am adding you to my craft blog. :D

  6. Ooo, I need to see if I have a quilting foot. I think maybe one came with my machine . . . That would be good so I can finish the baby quilt I started . . . oh my gosh! SEVEN years ago!

  7. I am loving the sign girl. We were so distracted the other day that I don't remember ever seeing it after we talked about it.

  9. Too funny...I got the EXACT same thing for Christmas!!! I've tested both feet out and still feel like I have a lot to learn. The free motion foot worked great on a small quilt sandwich, but was much harder on a larger project. I also used my walking foot to sew a baby quilt and the tension was a little wrong on the back, but not too bad. I'd love to hear how it goes for you and if you have any tips or find any good online tutorials.

  10. I'll post the quilt in a few days. I did finish it with the walking foot. It's not perfect, but not bad either!
